July Causes to Support

June 30, 2021

July is an exciting month, typically filled with fireworks and BBQs, while also one where we acknowledge several causes, from celebrating a global leader in civil rights to saving one of our most glorious yet endangered species.

You’ll notice each cause’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a global framework that was adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to address the world’s most pressing causes.

Looking for more inspiration? Be sure to follow our social media accounts where we provide more content about the events, campaigns, and partners who are joining us in the #PledgeToDoGood. You can also download a link to a printable July Cause Calendar linked here.

Below you’ll find a monthly guide of causes and nonprofits that you can easily support through Pledge as a way to honor these special dates, but you don’t need a day to do something good. Our Explore Causes page has every organization in our system categorized by topic, from education to the environment.

No matter what you support this month, our platform and products make it easy to donate to any cause of your choice. For more information and see how you can get started, reach out to our Impact Partnerships team at impacts@pledge.to today.

All Month, National Make a Difference for Children Month

SDG Alignment: #1 No Poverty, #2 Zero Hunger, #3 Good Health and Well-Being

Around the world, children are suffering. They are facing an extreme lack of healthcare, food, school supplies, and more. Some of them have never experienced life without the daily struggle to survive. July is a special time for recognizing both their immediate needs and future aspirations. To donate to an organization that supports children's wellbeing, consider one of the organizations below:

July 4th: Independence Day (US)

SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being, #16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

This Independence Day, we’d like to honor our heroes that have fought and served our country selflessly throughout the year. Below are a few organizations we suggest but is by no means an exhaustive list. To explore more military-focused organizations, head to our Explore Causes “Military” section here.

SDG Alignment: #1 No Poverty, #2 End Hunger, #16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Nelson Mandela Day is an annual international day in honor of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on July 18th, Mandela's birthday. The day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact - and while truly any cause that speaks to you relates to that, here are a few that specifically speak to Nelson’s efforts for equality and human rights:

July 26th: International Day for Conversation of the Mangrove Ecosystem

SDG Alignment: #14 Life Below Water

Celebrated each year on July 26th, the day aims to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems and to promote solutions for their sustainable management and conservation.

Mangrove forests are essential and productive ecosystems that provide numerous goods and services to the marine environment and local communities. These important habitats are one of the last hunting grounds of the Bengal tiger and a refuge for countless migratory birds, mammals, and insects. To help support this cause and day, consider donating or fundraising for one of the organizations below:

July 29th: World Tiger Day

SDG Alignment: #15 Life on Land

Global Tiger Day is celebrated every year on July 29th as a way to raise awareness about this spectacular, yet endangered big cat. Founded in 2010, when 13 countries with tigers came together with a goal to double the amount of wild tigers by 2022. According to the WWF, to save just one tiger, 10,000 hectares of forest must be conserved. To help this ongoing and devastating cause, you can donate to any of the following organizations:

July 30th: World Day Against Trafficking

SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being, #4 Quality Education, #5 Gender Equality,

Traffickingpersons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women, and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.

Most countries have national human trafficking laws but still people continue to be trafficked. To fight this heinous crime, in 2013 the United Nations General Assembly declared July 30th as the World Day Against Trafficking. To support this cause, donate or create a fundraiser for one of these organizations:
